12-month Fixed-term Contract Location: Norwich based (50% hybrid working) Salary: circa £52,000
About the Role
This opportunity is perfect for someone looking to play a meaningful role in both delivery and change. Leading a small team, you will be responsible for ensuring timely delivery of business-as-usual (BAU) month-end activities, while also driving efficiencies, continuous improvement, and transformation across the end-to-end close process.
You will join the UK&I General Insurance General Ledger Accounting Control & Operations team, where you’ll oversee the month-end close and maintain strong financial controls.
In this role, you will:
- Lead the UK General Insurance (UKGI) General Ledger (GL) Accounting team, collaborating closely with another team leader, to ensure accurate and timely general ledger closure, analytics, and reporting.
- Support BAU activities, while taking initiative to drive process improvements, control effectiveness, and operational excellence.
- Work closely with Finance teams including Financial Reporting, Reinsurance, and Actuarial, to ensure seamless financial operations.
- Support internal and external audits, contributing to governance and risk management strategies.
- Have access to development opportunities to grow your leadership and technical acumen.
Key Responsibilities
- Team Leadership & Coaching
- Responsible for leading, coaching, and supporting a small team, fostering a culture of high performance.
- Develop, mentor, and challenge team members to achieve organisational goals.
- Financial Controls & Governance
- Implement and maintain robust financial controls, ensuring compliance and accuracy in reporting.
- Lead the month-end close process, ensuring deadlines are met and discrepancies are resolved efficiently.
- Process Improvement & Efficiency
- Identify opportunities to streamline workflows, reduce bottlenecks, and enhance forecasting.
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives to strengthen financial operations.
- Stakeholder Management & Reporting
- Act as a key communication link between GL Accounting, Audit, Financial Reporting, and other business partners.
- Conduct in-depth data analysis, generate reports, and present financial insights to senior leadership.
- Audit & Regulatory Compliance
- Facilitate internal and external audit requests, ensuring collaboration with risk and compliance teams.
- Following regulatory standards to mitigate financial risk and identify control weak points.
- Change Management & Transformation
- Drive system upgrades, process automation, and strategic initiatives to support financial and operational growth.

Requirements & Qualifications
Experience & Attributes
- Proven experience leading, coaching, or supporting others (or an aspiration to grow into a people-leadership role with strong motivational and developmental skills).
- Strong ability to plan, prioritise, and delegate workloads while ensuring accountability for team outcomes.
- Qualified accountant (e.g., CA, ACCA, CPA, or other respected qualifications) or equivalent financial experience.
- Demonstrated expertise in operating effective financial controls, governance, and Auditing processes.
- Ability to pinsight operational inefficiencies, improve processes, and drive efficiency gains.
- Analytical mindset, with excellent stakeholder management and communication skills.
- Curious, collaborative attitude with a passion for continuous self-improvement.
