Graduate Submarines Structural Engineer
Location: Barrow (Cumbria) Hybrid/Flexible working available, but up to 5 days per week on-site required Salary: £34,000 per annum + £2,000 Welcome Bonus

About the Role
As a Graduate Submarines Structural Engineer, you’ll join a dynamic team overseeing the entire submarine lifecycle, from initial design to operational deployment. Your responsibilities will span structural engineering, submarine habitability, and dynamic load systems, ensuring every design meets rigorous safety and operational standards.
Key focus areas include:
- Structural Design: Develop robust architectures for submarines, ensuring resilience against stress, shock, and motion.
- Outfit Design: Collaborate on sheet metalwork, deck coverings, and internal furnishings/fittings to create a functional and safe living environment.
- Equipment Certification: Support the design of systems capable of enduring operational shock and dynamic movements.
- Lifting Arrangements: Assist with load-bearing designs and submarine movements for Logistics Support.
- Structural & Stress Analysis: Contribute to engineering analysis, systems modelling, and technical documentation.
- Requirements Management: Work with specifications and industry standards while operating under technical supervision.

The Team
You’ll be part of the team responsible for designing, building, and commissioning the Astute-class and Dreadnought-class submarines—the largest and most advanced platforms used by the Royal Navy, serving as a critical UK nuclear deterrent.

- Baseline Personnel Security Standard (BPSS): Mandatory for all applicants.

Qualification Requirements
You must hold (or be predicted to obtain) at least a 2:2 first-class degree (or equivalent) in:
- Structural Engineering
- Mechanical Engineering
- Civil Engineering
- OR a related STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics) discipline
*This role is a permanent contract, with an expected start date of 12th April 2027.
