Acting HR Generalist @ Gates – Standalone HR Representative

About the Role
Partnering closely with site leadership, this Acting HR Generalist will deliver a comprehensive end-to-end HR service, balancing operational execution with strategic support. The role involves:
- Delivering HR services autonomously, including employee relations, recruitment, payroll, learning & development, and employee engagement
- Ensuring compliance with UK employment legislation, GDPR, and corporate HR frameworks
- Supporting decision-making through HR reporting, analysis, and insight provision
Key Responsibilities
HR Operations & Administration
- Act as the primary HR contact for employees and managers
- Manage disciplinary, grievance, and investigative processes
- Administer onboarding, inductions, and exit procedures
- Coordinate and approve payroll and benefits, ensuring HMRC compliance
- Maintain and update HR systems (Oracle, Peoplesoft), including employee data accuracy and legal compliance
- Coordinate with occupational health (OH) and absence management

Talence & Engagement
- Lead the recruitment lifecycle, from sourcing through to onboarding
- Develop training and development strategies and track implementation
- Lead employee wellbeing initiatives and engagement programs
- Contribute HR expertise to site management meetings
Policy & Compliance
- Develop, review, and implement policies (employment, GDPR, etc.)
- Ensure legal, regulatory, and procedural adherence
- Provide strategic HR support aligned with UK and EMEA-wide policies
Requirements
Essential
- Proven experience in a HR Generalist or standalone HR role
- Strong UK employment law knowledge
- Experience with employee relations case management
- Payroll administration (including HMRC compliance)
- HR systems (Oracle, PeopleSoft) and Microsoft Office
- CIPD Level 5 qualification (minimum)
Preferred
- Experience in manufacturing or unionised environments
- CIPD Level 7 qualification (or able to study towards)
- Degree in HR, Business, or related discipline
- Experience supporting multi-site operations
