IMS Auditor (Sizewell C)

IMS Auditor (Sizewell C) – Contract Role

Location: London (office-based, with hybrid working options) Client: Sizewell C (via Morson) Duration: Until the end of December 2024 (with likely extension) Company: #SZCJobs – Supporting local talent into Sizewell C careers

About the Role

The IMS Auditor delivers independent, objective, and evidence-based assurance on the adequacy, effectiveness, and compliance of the Sizewell C Integrated Management System (IMS). This key position ensures the system functions as intended across a highly regulated, fast-paced project environment, supporting governance, compliance, and continuous improvement.

The role involves:

  • Conducting risk-based audits aligned to project priorities and regulatory expectations
  • Reviewing Implementation across the organisation and key stakeholder interfaces
  • Producing clear, factual, and structured reports with findings, risks, and improvement opportunities
  • Supporting Root Cause Analysis (RCA), action-tracking, and corrective action verification
  • Collaborating on accumulation resilience and continuous improvement initiatives

Principal Accountabilities

1. Audit Programme Development & Delivery

  • Develop and maintain a risk-based Audit & Functional Annual Audit Programme, ensuring alignment with:
    • Project priorities
    • Certification requirements
    • Regulatory expectations

2. Audit Execution

  • Plan and conduct IMS audits, including:
    • Comprehensive interviews
    • Documentation review
    • Sampling and objective evidence testing
    • Observation to validate effectiveness in practice

3. Reporting & Analysis

  • Generate well-structured, actionable reports covering:
    • Audit scope and approach
    • Evidence collected
    • Findings, conclusions, and recommendations
  • Identify recurring themes and systemic issues, providing trend-based insights to inform management and organisational learning

4. Stakeholder Engagement & Assurance

  • Foster credible working relationships across all organisational levels while maintaining auditor independence
  • Securely challenge auditees to ensure constructive improvement
  • Support external audits, certification activity, and regulatory reviews
  • Participate in continuous improvement efforts for the Integrated Management System

Knowledge & Skills (Essential)

  • Regulated Environment Experience: Strong expertise in IMS audit/assurance/oversight, with experience within a highly mandated context
  • Reporting: Excellent written communication skills to present complex findings in a clear, objective, and defensible manner
  • Investigation: Proficient inquiry, questioning, and deep-dive analysis skills to test assumptions
  • Trend & Judgement: Ability to analyse trends, assess risks, and make evidence-based decisions
  • IMS Standards: Comprehensive knowledge of:
    • ISO 9001 (Quality Management)
    • ISO 14001 (Environmental Management)
    • ISO 45001 (Occupational Safety & Health)
    • ISO 19443 (Nuclear & Radiation Safety & Security)
  • Audit Methodology: Deep understanding of ISO 19011 principles and modern audit practices
  • Stakeholder Influence: Leverage constructive engagement without compromising the auditor’s independence
  • Organisation & Follow-Through: Strong time management, prioritisation skills in a dynamic, high-pressure environment

Desirable Skills & Experience

  • Governing Schemes: Familiarity with nuclear governance, nuclear safety culture, and regulatory expectations in major project management
  • Corrective Process: Experience in:
    • Management of change (ModC)
    • Tracking non-conformances & actions to closure
  • Decision-Support Tools: Experience using reporting dashboards or assurance data to inform organisational decisions
  • Regulatory Frameworks: Awareness of:
    • IAEA (International Atomic Energy Agency)
    • ONR (Office for Nuclear Regulation)
    • UK Environment Agency
  • Complex Interfaces: Proven records of working across multi-stakeholder environments (contractors, suppliers, project partners)

Qualifications & Experience (Essential)

  • Degree/Equivalent: Qualification in
    • Engineering / Science
    • Quality Management
    • Business Management (OR gain alternative through relevant practical experience)
  • Lead Auditor Certification: Minimum ISO 9001 Lead Auditor qualification (additional standards desirable)
  • Audit Experience:
    • Risk-based audits
    • Assurance reviews
    • Planning deliveries
  • Regulatory Environment:
    • UK regulatory setting
  • External Assurance Links:
    • Experience supporting regulation, surveillance/portfolio, and external audits
  • Large-Scale Projects:
    • Background in infrastructure, construction, or programme delivery, particularly within a highly perimetered, time-constrained pre-style environment

Desirable Qualifications & Experience

  • Additional Lead Auditor Standards:
    • ISO 14001, ISO 45001
    • ISO 27001 (Data Security)
  • (Governance Segment):
    • Experience within the nuclear sector or high-hazard industry
