Lead Software Engineer - Trading Platforms

Lead Software Engineer

As a Lead Software Engineer at JPMorganChase, within the Treasury/Chief Investment Office (T/CIO), Corporate Technology team, you are an integral part of an agile team that works to enhance, build, and deliver trusted market-leading technology products in a secure, stable, and scalable way.

As a core technical contributor, you are responsible for conducting critical technology solutions across multiple technical areas within various business functions to support firm’s business objectives.

This new role requires a driven individual who thrives in a fast-paced setting, takes ownership of tasks, and is comfortable working as part of a team on solutions for the T/CIO trading desks.


Job Responsibilities

  • Develops, enhances, and supports the Trade Execution Platform, critical to trading and other business activities.
  • Executes creative software solutions, including design, development, and technical troubleshooting, thinking beyond conventional approaches to build solutions or address technical problems.
  • Develops secure and high-quality production code, and reviews and debugs code written by others.
  • Drives team adoption of enterprise-authorized AI-assisted engineering practices (e.g., AI-assisted code review/refactoring, test strategy acceleration, incident/root-cause analysis support) while:
    • Establishing consistent validation standards (secure coding, peer review, automated testing).
    • Promoting reuse of effective patterns across the team.
  • Applies knowledge of Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC) tools (including AI-assisted development and automation) to improve automation value.
  • Identifies opportunities to eliminate or automate remediation of recurring issues to enhance software stability.
  • Contributes to a team culture of diversity, opportunity, inclusion, and respect.

Required Qualifications, Capabilities, and Skills

  • Formally trained or certified in software engineering concepts with experience delivering in a commercial setting.
  • Hands-on experience in:
    • System design.
    • Application development.
    • Testing.
    • Operational stability.
  • Advanced proficiency in Python or Java, including frameworks.
  • Ability to independently troubleshoot design and functionality issues.
  • Demonstrated ability to problem-solve in real-time and handle technical issues with urgency.
  • Strong communication skills and ability to collaborate with non-technical colleagues to understand and address business needs.
  • Ability to drive delivery and take end-to-end ownership.
  • Demonstrated experience leading the effective use of approved AI-assisted software development tools (e.g., coding, code review, test acceleration, troubleshooting), with ability to:
    • Set team expectations for validating AI outputs for correctness, performance, and security.
  • Strong understanding of responsible AI use in engineering workflows, including:
    • Data sensitivity considerations.
    • Secure handling of inputs/outputs.
    • Adherence to resiliency and security standards.
    • Experience coaching engineers on safe, compliant adoption in delivery practices.
  • Advanced understanding of agile methodologies, including:
    • CI/CD.
    • Application resiliency.
    • Security.
  • Practical cloud-native experience.

Preferred Qualifications, Capabilities, and Skills

  • Experience in the financial industry, including knowledge of:
    • Investment banking products.
    • Fixed income.
    • Derivatives.
  • Project execution experience with strong communication skills, including ability to collaborate with non-technical colleagues to understand and address business needs.
  • Comfort working across full-stack development, particularly with React.
  • Exposure to cloud technologies, specifically AWS.
  • Familiarity with container orchestration (Kubernetes, or "K8s").
