Primary Care Nurse – HMP Leeds, Category B Prison


About the Role

  • MAKE A DIFFERENCE TO EVERY LIFE We’re seeking a talented Primary Care Nurse to join our Primary Care team at HMP Leeds, a Category B men’s prison housing individuals aged 21+.

Hours
  • 37.5 hours per week in a rotation across:
    • Day shifts: 0700–2030
    • Night shifts: 2000–0730
    • Shifts alternate, covering weekends and bank holidays (~2 weekends per month on average)
    • Exact scheduling depends on service needs
Salary
  • Full-time position: Up to £41,659 per annum FTE, depending on experience.

Key Responsibilities

As a Primary Care Nurse, you’ll play a pivotal role in:

  • Collaborating with a multi-disciplinary team to deliver a nurse-led service and reduce unnecessarily hospital admissions.
  • Undertaking essential tasks including:
    • Conducting medication rounds
    • Dispensing controlled medication
    • Responding to emergency situations
    • Patient assessments
    • Reception screening
  • Leading nurse-led clinics tailored to the patient group, supported by broader cross-departmental collaboration.
  • Providing outstanding, evidence-based patient care, actively seeking and acting on feedback to ensure care is personalised and patient-driven.
  • Delivering non-judgemental, compassionate care with a focus on making measurable improvements.
  • Inspiring excellence by building partnerships with stakeholders and promoting:
    • Best practice
    • Clinical supervision
    • Continuous quality improvement
    • A culture of shared learning
  • Sharing knowledge and expertise to support safe, effective care, fostering strong multi-disciplinary teams.

Essential Qualifications & Skills:

✅ Registered Nurse (Adult) – Required. ✅ Valid professional credential (NMC) – Mandatory. ✅ Experience in an acute setting – Preferred but desirable. ✅ Evidence of Continuing Professional Development (CPD) – Crucial. ✅ Strong working knowledge of multi-disciplinary and multi-agency teamwork. ✅ A non-judgmental, compassionate approach. ✅ Adaptailbility to high-pressure, secure environments. Ideal extermination: Experience in hospitals, community or prison healthcare settings—although not a strict requirement.
