Retrieval Medicine – Position Description
Position
Title: Retrieval Medicine Type: Temporary, Full-Time Classification: Registrar or Senior Registrar (dependent on PGY status and/ or classification in another appointment; may be 0.5FTE) Salary: $125,473 – $173,760 p.a. Location: Canberra Hospital, Garran ACT Section: Capital Region Retrieval Services Closing Date: 1 August 2026

Capital Region Retrieval Services (CRRS)
The Capital Region Retrieval Service delivers medical crew support for the primary rescue helicopter serving the ACT and Greater Southern New South Wales (NSW).
- The SouthCare Helicopter is part of eight identical aircraft providing rescue/retrieval services across southern NSW and the ACT.
- The service handles a high volume of trauma cases and secondary retrievals, with occasional roadside extractions in ACT/NSW.
Opportunities exist for Senior Registrars (levels commensurate with advanced training) on a:
- 1-year part-time contract or
- 6-month full-time contract
Commencement available either February 2027 or August 2027.
Suitable candidates may hold a current Registrar role (4th-year specialty trainee+) within:
- Intensive Care Unit
- Emergency Department
- Anaesthesia & Pain Management
These positions are accredited for training in ACEM (Australian College of Emergency Medicine), CICM (Australian & New Zealand Intensive Care Society), and ANZCA (Australian & New Zealand College of Anaesthetists).

Key responsibilities include operational/professional accountability under the CRRS Medical Director, supervised by the on-duty retrieval consultant; alternative employers apply when Registrars deploy outside CHS. Rambunctious interdisciplinary oversight and credentialing governed by respective specialty bodies.
Requirements
- Candidates must demonstrate recent clinical experience equivalent to a 4th-year specialty trainee in Anaesthesia, Intensive Care, or Emergency Medicine.
- Pre-employment mandatory:
- National Police Check.
- Occupational Assessment, Screening and Vaccination Policy compliance (CHS).
