About The Role
What does the average day look like?
On a typical day as a Senior Commercial Manager, you’ll:

- Support internal customers with escalated issues in areas such as:
- Claims
- Variations

- Work closely with suppliers and colleagues, including:
- Negotiating prices

- Challenging reporting accuracy
- Ensuring compliance with corporate governance and C&P (Commercial & Procurement) policy
- Providing clear advice on changes or disputes
- Play an active role in driving improvements
- Mentor commercial staff to support staff growth

Your Experience And Skills
Who are we looking for?
We’re seeking an experienced Senior Commercial Manager with:
- Strong commercial and contract management expertise
- A confident leader and communicator, capable of:
- Building effective relationships with multi-level stakeholders
- Guiding teams to achieve value-driven results that meet business needs
- The ability to advise and guide the Southern Property team in ensuring:
- Robust contract management aligned with internal and external assurance, governance, and regulatory requirements
- Delivery of commercial expertise to customers and stakeholders, optimising cost, risk, relationship, and performance value
- Process improvement initiatives

Essential Criteria
✅ Knowledge of railway and construction industry contracts ✅ Degree-level education or equivalent professional qualification ✅ Experienced negotiator ✅ Proven experience resolving construction contract disputes ✅ 5+ years of relevant experience in railway or construction sectors ✅ Specialised knowledge of railway commercial contract management
