  • Support internal customers with escalated issues in areas such as:
    • Claims

  • Shape and implement commercial strategies

  • Work closely with suppliers and colleagues, including:
    • Negotiating prices
    • Managing contract clauses
    • Resolving challenges as they arise
  • Use a sharp eye for risk and detail by:
    • Challenging reporting accuracy
    • Ensuring compliance with corporate governance and C&P (Commercial & Procurement) policy
    • Providing clear advice on changes or disputes
  • Play an active role in driving improvements
  • Mentor commercial staff to support staff growth

Your Experience And Skills

Who are we looking for?

We’re seeking an experienced Senior Commercial Manager with:

  • Strong commercial and contract management expertise
  • A confident leader and communicator, capable of:
    • Building effective relationships with multi-level stakeholders
    • Guiding teams to achieve value-driven results that meet business needs
  • The ability to advise and guide the Southern Property team in ensuring:
    • Robust contract management aligned with internal and external assurance, governance, and regulatory requirements
    • Delivery of commercial expertise to customers and stakeholders, optimising cost, risk, relationship, and performance value
    • Process improvement initiatives

Essential Criteria

✅ Knowledge of railway and construction industry contracts ✅ Degree-level education or equivalent professional qualification ✅ Experienced negotiator ✅ Proven experience resolving construction contract disputes ✅ 5+ years of relevant experience in railway or construction sectors ✅ Specialised knowledge of railway commercial contract management
