How You’ll Make a Difference
Our social workers make a real difference every day. You’ll work with families to help children and young people who have faced challenging starts in life achieve their full potential. By listening to young people and putting them at the heart of everything you do, you will:
- Partner with families to equip them with essential skills
- Ensure children and young people live in happy, healthy, and safe homes
Note: While this role is advertised as full-time, we encourage applications from experienced social workers interested in part-time, job share, or flexible working arrangements.
What You Will Be Doing
- Contribute to a culture of innovation and continuous improvement—using creativity to deliver high-quality, child-centred practices
- Operate within the Integrated Children’s Service Front Door Response Team, focusing on:
- Assessing and managing significant harm to children
- Ensuring safeguarding and protection from abuse
- Undertaking statutory assessments (including child protection investigations)
Requirements & Qualifications
Essential:
- Qualified social worker with valid SWE registration
- Completed ASYE (if qualifying since 2012)
- Strong understanding of asset-based and strengths-based social work approaches
- Demonstrated ability to assess and manage risk for vulnerable children
- Experience in supervision/mentoring of social workers or support staff
- Substantial first-hand experience in children’s social care teams
- Ability to make informed, child-focused decisions and demonstrate strategic critical thinking

Desirable:
- Prior experience in children’s social work response roles
- Knowledge of government-led social care reforms
About the Role
- Location: Badminton Road, Yate office
- Hours: Primarily full-time, but flexible/part-time/job share arrangements considered
- Travel: Requires regular travel across the authority and surrounding areas
- Must hold a full, valid driving licence or alternative suitable means of transport (e.g., vehicle for business use)
Additional Notes:
- Enhanced DBS check is a corporate requirement
- Interviews: Tentatively scheduled for week commencing 6 July 2026
