System of Systems Design Definition Group Lead – GBAD Export

Salary & Working Arrangements

Salary: Circa £72,000 depending on experience

  • Location: Hybrid model (3 days per week on-site due to workload classification requirements)
  • Nationality/Security Clearance:
    • British citizen or dual UK national with British citizenship
    • Successful candidates will undergo HMG Basic Personnel Security Standard (BPSS) checks post-offer

The Opportunity

Lead multi-disciplinary engineering teams in integrating an MBDA land product into a Ground-Based Air Defence (GBAD) Weapon System, balancing physical/functional integration with deep systems expertise.

Key Responsibilities

  • Oversee MBDA’s support for system-level requirements, verification planning, SoS design studies, and interface definitions
  • Deliver SoS task packages on time, on budget, and to quality standards
  • Oversea native and external teams (across Europe & the US), reporting progress and budget updates
  • Mandate customer & partner engagement—managing technical interactions, liaising with stakeholders

Travel

  • Overseas travel expected once per month (requirement)

What We’re Looking For

An experienced defence engineer adept at:

  • Complex systems integration (especially defence sector)
  • Systems thinking (ability to lead trade studies)
  • Stakeholder management: Clarity to present technical details to internal/external audiences (customers, government, System Design Authorities)
  • Proven ability to negotiate/finalise requirement sets collaboratively
  • Proven team management & development experience
  • Work package delivery expertise (budget adherence, scope control)
